Á félagsfundi Samtakanna ’78 16. nóvember 2023 var eftirfarandi yfirlýsing samþykkt:
Undanfarnar vikur hefur heimurinn horft upp á þjóðarmorð Ísraelshers á Palestínufólki á Gasasvæðinu. Hörmungarnar eru gríðarlegar og ljóst að Ísraelsher skeytir engu um líf Palestínufólks en þegar þetta er ritað hafa um 11.000 óbreyttir borgarar verið drepnir. Þá virðist herinn leggja sig fram um að eyðileggja innviði og lykilbyggingar svo sem raf- og vatnsveitu og sjúkrahús. Slíkt framferði ætti að rannsaka sem stríðsglæpi.
Í gegnum tíðina hefur Ísraelsríki skreytt sig fjöðrum hinseginleikans þar sem réttindi hinsegin fólks standa að mörgu leyti framar í Ísrael en meðal nágrannaþjóða Ísraels. Nú síðast hafa borist fréttir af hermönnum Ísraelshers sem fagna því að loksins séu réttindi hinsegin fólks tryggð á Gasasvæðinu með innrás hersins núna í október. Samtökin ‘78 hafna algerlega slíkum bleikþvotti.
Hinsegin Palestínufólk er ekki öruggara án heimilis en þau voru áður.
Morð Ísraelshers á óbreyttum borgurum veitir látnu hinsegin fólki engin réttindi.
Hinsegin fólk á Gasasvæðinu getur ekki nýtt sér heilbrigðisþjónustu sjúkrahúsa sem hafa verið sprengd í loft upp.
Ef Ísraelsher væri alvara með að tryggja mannréttindi á Gasasvæðinu ætti að byrja á að tryggja rétt Palestínufólks til lífs.
Mannréttindi verða aldrei tryggð með þjóðarmorði.
Samtökin ‘78 fordæma þjóðarmorð Ísraelshers á Gasasvæðinu. Réttur Palestínufólks til lífs er virtur að vettugi með hroðalegum hætti. Það er ekkert unnið í mannréttindum hinsegin fólks með þessum aðgerðum. Þjóðarmorði Ísraelshers fylgir ekkert stolt.
Statement: There is no pride in genocide
At Samtökin ‘78’s general meeting on November 16, 2023, the following statement was approved by members:
In recent weeks, the world has watched the Israeli army’s genocide of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The disaster is enormous and it is clear that the Israeli army does not care about the lives of the Palestinian people. At the time of this writing over 11,000 civilians have been killed. The army also seems to be making an effort to destroy infrastructure and key buildings, targeting electricity, water supply and hospitals. Such conduct should be investigated as war crimes.
The State of Israel has for decades used queer rights to improve Israel’s public image, as the rights of LGBTI people are in many ways more advanced in Israel than among Israel’s neighbouring nations. Most recently, there have been reports of Israeli soldiers celebrating that the rights of LGBTI people have finally been secured in the Gaza Strip following the army’s invasion this October. Samtökin ’78 – the National Queer Organization of Iceland absolutely rejects this pinkwashing.
LGBTI Palestinians are not safer without a home than they were before.
The killing of civilians by the Israeli army gives dead LGBTI people no increased rights.
LGBTI people in the Gaza Strip cannot use the health services of hospitals that have been blown up.
If the Israeli army was serious about guaranteeing human rights in the Gaza Strip, it should start by guaranteeing the Palestinian people’s right to life.
Human rights will never be advanced by genocide.
Samtökin ‘78 condemns the Israeli army’s genocide in the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian people’s right to life is being appallingly disregarded. These actions do not advance the human rights of LGBTI people. There is no pride in genocide.
