It’s important for each and every individual to know his or her legal status in the society in which he or she lives. For 30 years, Samtökin ‘78 (the Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender People in Iceland) has lead the battle for homosexual rights in Iceland and fought to guarantee that homosexuals enjoy the same human rights as heterosexuals in Icelandic society. This fight has been a successful one, and the legal status of homosexuals in Iceland is now one of the best in the world
